Achilles Tendonitis Treatment in Fort Myers with SoftWave

The back of your ankle is stiff when you get up. It loosens after a few blocks, then aches again that night. You skipped the last pickleball game. If that sounds familiar, this page is about Achilles tendonitis treatment in Fort Myers.

Our view: if your Achilles has hurt for more than two or three months, rest alone is not going to fix it. Tendons heal slowly. Try SoftWave before a shot. Start with a $49 mapping session.

What is Achilles tendonitis?

Your Achilles is the thick cord at the back of your ankle. It ties your calf muscle to your heel bone. Every step pulls on it.

When it gets strained over and over, it gets sore and thick. That is Achilles tendonitis. Signs include:

  • Stiffness at the back of the heel first thing in the morning
  • Pain when you go up stairs or walk uphill
  • A tender lump or thick spot on the cord
  • An ache after running, tennis or pickleball

Pain under the heel is a different problem. Read about plantar fasciitis and heel pain treatment if that sounds more like you.

How does SoftWave help Achilles pain?

Tendons get very little blood. That is why they heal so slowly. SoftWave sends gentle sound waves into the tendon. Your body reads those waves as a signal to repair.

SoftWave devices have FDA 510(k) clearance for some uses, such as improving blood supply and activating connective tissue. Tendonitis is on the list of problems our clinic treats with it. Patients often report that their first steps feel easier after a full plan. We will not promise a result.

Who is a good fit?

You may be a good fit if the tendon has hurt for months, you have tried rest, ice and calf stretches, and you want to keep moving.

Picture a 58-year-old who runs the bridges over the Caloosahatchee on Saturday mornings. For four months the back of his left ankle has been stiff. He cut his miles in half. It still hurts. He does not want a cortisone shot near a tendon. That is who we built this for.

A fresh tear is not. If you felt a pop, see a medical doctor first.

What does a session feel like?

  1. Mapping. We move the wand along the tendon and calf to find the spots that react.
  2. Treatment. Gel goes on your skin. The wand taps over the sore areas. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Back to your day. You can walk out and drive home.

Wear shorts or pants that roll up past the calf. Sessions are run by Matthew Mahoney, and Dr. Lee Angle, D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic), oversees care at Upper Cervical Health Centers.

How many sessions and what does it cost?

Our usual plan is 6 to 8 sessions over about 6 to 8 weeks.

Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, once a week. If the problem is very acute, visits may be closer together. Your mapping is where we set the plan for your case.

Your first step is a $49 mapping session. If SoftWave is not right for your tendon, you are out $49, not thousands.

Full plan price: $100 per session, or 6 sessions for $540 (that is $90 a session).

Paying: You can pay with your HSA card. Read more on paying with an HSA.

Common questions

Does SoftWave on the Achilles hurt?

Most people feel tapping or pressure. The tendon can be tender, so your technician can turn the strength down.

Can I keep running during treatment?

No special limits are needed after a session. Nothing special. You can drive home or go back to work right after.

What if my Achilles tore?

A sudden pop, a gap in the tendon or not being able to stand on your toes needs a medical doctor right away. SoftWave is not for a fresh tear.

How many sessions does Achilles tendonitis take?

Our usual plan is 6 to 8 sessions over about 6 to 8 weeks. We will give you our view after your mapping.

Do I still need to do my calf exercises?

Yes. SoftWave is something to add to your exercises and good shoes, not a swap for them.
