Carpal Tunnel Treatment in Fort Myers for Numb, Tingly Hands
You wake up at 3 a.m. and shake your hand to get the feeling back. You drop a fork at dinner. If that sounds like you, you are looking for carpal tunnel treatment in Fort Myers, and you have options before surgery.
Our view: if your symptoms come and go, and your hand is still strong, SoftWave is worth a try first. If your hand is numb all day or getting weak, see a hand doctor first. We will tell you which group you are in.

What is carpal tunnel, in plain words?
Your wrist has a narrow tunnel made of small bones and a tight band of tissue. A nerve runs through it to your thumb and first three fingers. Tendons go through the same tunnel.
When the tissue in that tunnel swells, it squeezes the nerve. A squeezed nerve sends odd signals. That is carpal tunnel syndrome.
Common signs:
- Tingling or "pins and needles" in the thumb, pointer and middle finger
- Numbness that wakes you up at night
- A clumsy hand, like trouble with buttons or jar lids
- Pain that runs up the forearm
The pinky usually feels fine. If your pinky is the numb one, it may be a different nerve, and that is worth telling us.
Who gets carpal tunnel in Fort Myers?
We see it in people who grip, type or vibrate all day. Hairstylists. Dental hygienists. Office workers at a keyboard. Landscapers running a hedge trimmer under the July sun. Retirees who finally have time for knitting, woodworking or eight hours of pickleball a week.
It is also more common with diabetes, thyroid problems and pregnancy. Many people get it in both hands.

When should I see a hand doctor right away?
SoftWave is not the right first step for everyone. Please see a hand doctor (an orthopedic or plastic surgeon who treats hands) if you have any of these:
- Numbness that never goes away, day or night
- Weakness, like dropping cups or keys often
- The fleshy pad at the base of your thumb looks flat or sunken
- Symptoms that started after a fall or a broken wrist
Those can mean the nerve has been squeezed long enough to be hurt. A nerve test and a surgeon's opinion matter then. Waiting can make it harder to get full feeling back.
If you have tingling in both feet too, it may be a nerve problem that starts somewhere else. Read about neuropathy treatment in Fort Myers.
How might SoftWave help carpal tunnel?
SoftWave sends gentle sound waves into the tissue. SoftWave devices have FDA 510(k) clearance for certain uses, such as improving blood supply and activating connective tissue.
The goal is to calm the swollen tissue around the nerve and bring more blood flow to the area. Patients often report less tingling at night after a full plan. Results vary, and we will not promise yours.
SoftWave works best with smart habits. A night splint, breaks from gripping and a better desk setup still matter.
What does a visit feel like?
- Mapping. Matthew Mahoney moves the wand over your wrist, palm and forearm to find the tender spots.
- Treatment. Gel on the skin, then light tapping for about 10 to 15 minutes. No needles, no numbing.
- Back to your day. You can drive yourself home and use your hand. Aftercare: Nothing special. You can drive home or go back to work right after.
How many visits and what does it cost?
Our usual plan is 6 to 8 sessions over about 6 to 8 weeks. Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, once a week. If the problem is very acute, visits may be closer together. Your mapping is where we set the plan for your case.

What can I try at home first?
Wear a simple wrist splint at night. It keeps the wrist straight so the tunnel stays open while you sleep. Most drugstores on Cleveland Ave sell them.
Take short breaks from gripping. Every 30 minutes, open your hand wide and shake it out. Lower your keyboard so your wrists are not bent up.
If you still wake up tingling after a few weeks, it is time to get it checked.

Common questions
Is carpal tunnel on the list of things SoftWave is used for?
Yes. Carpal tunnel is one of the conditions our clinic lists. SoftWave may help, but it is not a promise, and it does not replace a hand doctor when nerve damage is likely.
When should I see a hand doctor instead?
If your fingers are numb all the time, your thumb muscle looks flat, or you keep dropping things, see a hand doctor soon. Those can be signs the nerve is being squeezed hard.
Does SoftWave on the wrist hurt?
Most people feel light tapping. The wrist is a small area, so Matthew Mahoney keeps the strength low and turns it down if a spot feels sharp.
How many sessions does carpal tunnel take?
Our usual plan is 6 to 8 sessions over about 6 to 8 weeks. Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, once a week. If the problem is very acute, visits may be closer together. Your mapping is where we set the plan for your case.
