Sports Injury Treatment in Fort Myers for Weekend Athletes
Golf four days a week. Pickleball on the other three. A long run on the Caloosahatchee bridges on Sunday. Fort Myers is a great place to stay active, and a great place to wear out a tendon.
Looking for sports injury treatment in Fort Myers? Here is our position: the nagging strain you have "played through" for two months will not fix itself on more rest alone. That is when SoftWave is worth a look.

Did I just get hurt? Go to urgent care or the ER first
We are not the first stop for a fresh, bad injury. Go to urgent care or an emergency room if:
- You think a bone might be broken
- You cannot put weight on your leg or foot
- A joint looks bent or out of place
- Swelling is fast and big, or you heard a loud pop
- You hit your head
Once a broken bone or full tear has been ruled out, and the pain hangs on, come see us.
What sports injuries do we see most?
Mostly the slow kind. Overuse injuries build up over weeks from doing the same move again and again. Muscle strains are a pull or small tear in a muscle.
- Golfers: sore elbows, low back pain, stiff shoulders after a long season at the courses off Daniels Parkway
- Pickleball and tennis players: tennis elbow, calf strains, shoulder pain
- Runners and walkers: heel pain, sore Achilles, shin and knee pain from miles on hard pavement
- Gym and beach volleyball folks: hamstring and groin pulls, shoulder strain
Heel pain in runners is often plantar fasciitis. Read about plantar fasciitis treatment in Fort Myers.
Why do sports injuries linger after 50?
Tendons and muscles heal slower as we age. Many snowbirds and retirees here play more now than they did at 30. More games, less rest. The body cannot keep up.
Picture a retired teacher from Michigan who walks 18 holes five days a week from December to April. By February her calf aches every round. She rests a week, goes back, and it flares again. That loop can last a whole season.
How might SoftWave help?
SoftWave sends gentle sound waves into sore tissue. SoftWave devices have FDA 510(k) clearance for certain uses, such as improving blood supply and activating connective tissue.
Tendons and old strains often have poor blood flow. The goal is to wake up the repair process in that spot. Patients often report they can play with less pain after a full plan. Results vary, and we will not promise yours.
We still want you to fix the cause: warm up, add rest days, and check your shoes, clubs or paddle.

What does a visit feel like?
- Mapping. Matthew Mahoney moves the wand over the sore area to find the most tender spots.
- Treatment. Gel, then light tapping for about 10 to 15 minutes. Tell us if a spot feels sharp and we turn it down.
- Back to your day. No needles and no downtime. Aftercare: Nothing special. You can drive home or go back to work right after.
How many visits and what does it cost?
Our usual plan is 6 to 8 sessions over about 6 to 8 weeks. Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, once a week. If the problem is very acute, visits may be closer together. Your mapping is where we set the plan for your case.
Start with a $49 mapping session. We find the sore spots and tell you if SoftWave fits your injury.
Plan price: $100 per session, or 6 sessions for $540 (that is $90 a session).
Paying: You can pay with your HSA card. Read more on paying with an HSA.
What can I do at home while I decide?
Cut back, do not quit. If 18 holes hurts, play nine. If five pickleball mornings hurts, try three for a few weeks.
Warm up for ten minutes before you play. A short walk and some easy swings or arm circles are enough. Cold muscles strain more easily, even on a warm Florida morning.
Look at your gear. Running shoes wear out after a few hundred miles. A paddle grip that is too thin makes your forearm work harder. Clubs that are too long can strain your back.
Ice can calm a flare after a game. Stretching the sore muscle gently, without bouncing, may help too.
If it still hurts after three or four weeks of smarter play, get it checked. That is what the $49 mapping is for.

What does the research say about shockwave for sports injuries?
Rhim and colleagues reviewed 56 studies of athletes and active people (British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2024). In the strongest studies, shockwave may help heel pain, tennis elbow and hamstring tendon pain. Most athletes kept training during treatment.
In one trial of 40 pro athletes with hamstring pain (Cacchio and colleagues, described in a 2021 review in Current Sports Medicine Reports), 8 in 10 who got shockwave were back to their sport by 3 months. None of the athletes who got usual care were back by then. These studies used other shockwave machines.
Study results are averages from groups of people. They are not a promise of what will happen for you. Your mapping session shows whether SoftWave fits your case.
