Why did Dr. Angle try SoftWave on his own shoulder?

Dr. Lee Angle, D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic), runs Upper Cervical Health Centers on McGregor Blvd. Before he offered SoftWave to a single patient, he tried it on his own shoulder.

That matters. He did not buy a machine off a sales pitch. He felt it first. Watch him tell the story in his own words.

What causes shoulder pain that won't go away?

Your shoulder moves more than any other joint. That freedom comes at a cost. It is easy to strain. Common causes of long-term shoulder pain include:

  • Rotator cuff strain or tendonitis. The rotator cuff is a group of four small muscles and tendons that hold the ball of your arm in its socket.
  • Frozen shoulder, where the joint gets tight and stiff and won't move far
  • Arthritis in the joint
  • Old injuries from lifting, a fall or years of sports

Around Fort Myers we see it in tennis and pickleball players, boaters who haul lines and coolers, and anyone who spends weekends trimming palms and hedges over their head.

How does SoftWave help shoulder pain?

SoftWave sends gentle sound waves into the tissue. Your body reads those waves as a signal to repair.

SoftWave devices have FDA 510(k) clearance for some uses, such as improving blood supply and activating connective tissue (the tough bands that hold joints together). Shoulder pain and tendonitis are on the list of problems our clinic treats with it.

Tendons in the shoulder get little blood flow, which is why a sore rotator cuff can drag on for a year. SoftWave may help by bringing more blood there. Patients often report they can sleep on that side again after a full plan. We will not promise it.

Who is a good fit for SoftWave shoulder treatment?

You may be a good fit if your shoulder has hurt for months, rest and stretching have not fixed it, and you want to avoid pills or repeat shots.

Picture a woman in Cypress Lake who plays pickleball four mornings a week. Her serve now hurts, and at night she wakes up every time she rolls onto her right side. She is not ready to quit. That is who calls us.

A shoulder that suddenly can't lift at all after a fall may be a full tear. That needs a medical doctor and an MRI first. We will tell you if the mapping points that way.

What does a SoftWave shoulder session feel like?

  1. Mapping. We move the wand over the front, top and back of your shoulder to find the spots that react.
  2. Treatment. Gel goes on your skin. The wand taps over the sore areas. Most people feel a light thump. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Back to your day. You can drive home or go to work.

Your sessions are run by Matthew Mahoney, our SoftWave technician.

How many SoftWave sessions does shoulder pain need?

Our usual plan is 6 to 8 sessions over about 6 to 8 weeks. A frozen shoulder or a long-term problem may need more.

Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, once a week. If the problem is very acute, visits may be closer together. Your mapping is where we set the plan for your case. Frozen shoulder is something we see a lot and work with often.
